Accept that Jesus is Enough

Proverbs 30:7-9 presents a heartfelt prayer from Agur, seeking balance and integrity in life. He asks God for two things: to keep falsehood and lies far from him and to give him neither poverty nor riches, but only his daily bread.

Agur desires contentment, fearing that excess or lack could lead him to deny God or act dishonestly. This passage encourages us to find sufficiency in Christ, trusting that Jesus is enough to meet all our needs.

Join us for this sermon as we delve into the wisdom of these verses and learn to embrace a life of contentment and reliance on Jesus.

Two things I ask of you; don’t deny them to me before I die: Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me. Give me neither poverty nor wealth; feed me with the food I need.  Otherwise, I might have too much  and deny you,  saying, “Who is the  LORD? ”  or I might have nothing and steal,  profaning  the name of my God.

A Prayer for Integrity

Agur begins by asking God to keep falsehood and deceit far from him. This request highlights the importance of truthfulness and integrity in a world often shaped by compromise. A life rooted in Christ values honesty—not only in words, but in motives and actions.

Neither Poverty nor Riches

Rather than asking for wealth or fearing lack, Agur prays for daily provision. He recognizes the spiritual danger found at both extremes—having too much and forgetting God, or having too little and being tempted toward dishonesty. His prayer reflects a heart that desires dependence on God above all else.

Learning Contentment

This message challenges the idea that more money or possessions lead to fulfillment. True contentment is found in trusting God’s provision day by day. When Jesus is enough, our hearts are freed from anxiety, comparison, and the constant pursuit of more.

Wisdom in Trusting God

Agur’s prayer reveals wisdom shaped by humility. He understands his own weaknesses and entrusts his needs fully to God. This message encourages believers to adopt the same posture—acknowledging our need for Christ and relying on Him in every area of life, including finances.

Jesus Is Enough

At the heart of this message is a powerful truth: Christ alone satisfies. When our trust rests in Jesus rather than wealth or circumstances, we discover freedom, peace, and a deeper relationship with God. This sermon calls believers to embrace a life centered on contentment, faith, and reliance on Christ.
